What the estimator can include

Refund vs amount owing

A refund generally arises when tax withheld and eligible offsets exceed the estimated tax liability. An amount owing can arise when withholding is insufficient or additional taxable income increases the final liability.

Use it as an estimate, not a lodged return

The tool cannot know every tax circumstance, deduction eligibility, private health setting or ATO adjustment. Use the result to plan and compare scenarios, then rely on your actual tax return or tax professional for the final outcome.
