Salary vs take-home pay

Your quoted salary is not the same as the amount that reaches your bank account. A useful salary comparison should separate gross salary from estimated deductions and show the result in the pay frequency you actually budget with.

That is why this page focuses on salary calculation, while our dedicated Take-Home Pay Calculator goes deeper into net-pay planning.

Current rates, methodology and assumptions

The calculator uses the published Australian settings documented in our methodology for the selected financial year. FY2026–27 is treated as the current calculator year, while future-year settings are clearly identified separately where supported.

Salary calculator FAQs

How do I calculate my salary after tax in Australia?

Enter your salary and pay frequency, select the relevant financial year and residency settings, and the calculator estimates tax, Medicare, HELP/HECS where selected, and take-home pay.

Can I see weekly, fortnightly and monthly take-home pay?

Yes. The same salary can be viewed across weekly, fortnightly, monthly and annual frequencies, making it easier to compare a job offer with your normal budget cycle.

Does the salary calculator include superannuation?

Yes. Super is displayed separately and the rate is editable so you can model different package assumptions.

Does it support HELP/HECS?

Yes. HELP/HECS can be included in the estimate where relevant. Individual payroll and tax outcomes can still differ, so results should be treated as estimates.

Estimates only. Tax, Medicare, HELP/HECS, superannuation and payroll outcomes depend on individual circumstances. My Pay Calculator is not financial or taxation advice.
